Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is a city that has something for everyone.

From its picturesque canals and charming houses to its world-renowned museums and vibrant nightlife, Amsterdam is a destination that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list.

As a local, I have put together a guide to help visitors make the most of their time in this amazing city, filled with insider tips and tricks for getting the most out of your Amsterdam experience.

Get Around on Foot or Bicycle

First and foremost, the best way to explore Amsterdam is by foot or bicycle.

The city is incredibly bike-friendly, with dedicated bike lanes and plenty of bike rental shops.

Not only is it a great way to get around, but it also allows you to take in the city’s picturesque streets and canals up close.

Cruise the Canals

If you’re looking to experience Amsterdam’s famous canals, I recommend taking a boat tour.

You’ll get a unique perspective on the city and learn about its history and architecture, all while enjoying the fresh air and beautiful views.

For a more intimate experience, consider renting a boat or canoe and exploring the canals on your own.

Experience the Rijksmuseum

One of Amsterdam’s most iconic sights is the Rijksmuseum, home to many of the Netherlands’ most famous works of art, including Rembrandt’s “Night Watch.”

The museum can get quite crowded, so I recommend visiting early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the crowds.

Also there’s usually an ice rink outside the front. In case you felt like paying to fall over for a bit.

Discover Amsterdam's Nightlife

For those looking to experience Amsterdam’s nightlife, the Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein areas are the place to be.

These areas are home to many bars, clubs, and live music venues, and are always bustling with energy.

Keep in mind that Amsterdam’s “coffee shops” are actually places where you can buy and smoke marijuana.

It is legal in Amsterdam but it’s not legal in whole Netherlands so keep that in mind if you plan to travel outside of the city.

Relax in Vondelpark

Another must-see destination in Amsterdam is the Vondelpark, the city’s largest park.

It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors, with plenty of green spaces, playgrounds, and even an open-air theater.

If you’re lucky, you might even catch a free concert or performance.

Try the Famous Stroopwafels

Finally, no trip to Amsterdam is complete without trying some of the city’s famous stroopwafels.

These delicious waffles, made from two thin layers of dough with a caramel filling, can be found at most street vendors and markets.

They are as dope as the stuff the Dutch smoke.

In conclusion Amsterdam is a wonderful city with so much to offer, from its culture and history to its vibrant nightlife and delicious food.

By following these insider tips, you’ll be able to make the most of your time in Amsterdam and create memories that will last a lifetime.
